Alpena swim team defeats Oscoda 89-72

ALPENA — The Alpena girls varsity swim team earned a victory against the Oscoda Owls on Tuesday, winning 89-72. Several swimmers claimed top spots and continued to set personal bests.

“The focus for the team will be to continue to set goals and keep the mindset of improving every day,” Head coach Jennifer Johnson said, highlighting the team’s ongoing development as they aim to build on this win.

The meet started with Alpena securing first place in the 200-yard Medley Relay, featuring swimmers Olivia Sherwood, Sarah Rabbideau, Tryst Bukowiecki, and Elizabeth Rabbideau. The Wildcats also took second place in the same relay with a team of Kaelyn Roznowski, Gabriella Tolan, Eva Trainer, and Haley Stenz.

In the 200-yard Freestyle, Tolan took second place, followed by Hailey Diemond in third. Bukowiecki claimed first place in the 200-yard Individual Medley, while Trainer placed fourth.

The 50-yard Freestyle saw Elizabeth Rabbideau finishing in second place, Stenz in third, and Bailee Diemond rounding out the top five.

Sarah Rabbideau dominated the 100-yard Butterfly and 100-yard Breaststroke, winning both events and setting the tone for the team’s continued success.

Trainer took second in the 100-yard Freestyle, Hailey Diemond third, and Roznowski fourth. Elizabeth Rabbideau earned second place in the 500-yard Freestyle, followed by Bukowiecki in third.

The Wildcats’ team of Roznowski, Tolan, Hailey Diemond, and Stenz also placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay.

In the 100-yard Backstroke, Sherwood took second, Roznowski third, and Bailee Diemond finished fourth. The meet concluded with Alpena’s 400-yard Freestyle Relay team, consisting of Trainer, Elizabeth Rabbideau, Bukowiecki, and Sarah Rabbideau, securing first place. Another Alpena team, Addison Wesaw, Madelyn Farley, Hailey Diemond, and Bailee Diemond, placed third.

With this win under their belts, the Wildcats will look ahead to their next meet at Ogemaw on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
