Hillman High School Sports Hall of Fame inducts 11th class
HILLMAN — The Hillman High School Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 11th class.
This year’s class consists of a football all-stater, a female athlete who was a multi-sport all-stater, a southpaw with a mean knuckleball, and a football team that ran the table in 1965.
The 2024 inductees are:
DALE TIMM
Timm graduated in 1966 and was All-State Honorable Mention in football during the 1965 season. He was a bruising fullback and nose tackle who was also All-North East Michigan and All-North Star League in football. Timm earned varsity letters in football, basketball, track, and baseball. Timm was also a member of the undefeated 1965 football team.
ERIN McDONALD
McDonald graduated in 2000 as a multiple-sport star, earning 12 varsity letters. She would earn All-State in both softball and basketball. The star pitcher of teams that would win four NSL championships, three districts, and two regionals while being named All-Conference all four years. In basketball, she would also be named All-Conference three years and make the Dream Team for The Alpena News. She won a conference championship in both basketball and volleyball. A scholar athlete, McDonald would earn a basketball and softball scholarship at Alpena Community College.
HARLEY JAMES
James graduated in 1967 and was the southpaw known for his junk pitches and knuckleball. James lettered in basketball and baseball but made his mark on the diamond in baseball, named All-Conference in 1966 and 1967. James was the ace pitcher on the 1966-67 North Division champion and the 1966 NSL outright North/South champion.
1965 UNDEFEATED FOOTBALL TEAM
Hillman’s 1965 NSL Championship football team featured four All-State players as a team with stout defense and a stellar offense. Team members include Dave Hagaman, Bob Kenyon, Jack Miller, Joe Barlog, Pete McDonald, Julian Konwinski, Randy Brink, Randy Dresback, Murray Rea, Mike Banks, Jerry Timm, Russ Godfrey, Mitch Amlotte, Charlie Michaeli, Roger Eagle, Louis Dick, Rick Hamilton, Mike Hamilton, Jerry Grosinsky, Darwin Kenyon, Dave Morrison, Jim Craft, Dale Timm, Jack Tennis, Kevin Slattery, Tom Rea, Dave Mellingen, David Duke Klein, Ed VanPamel, Dave Bouchey, Don Smith, Jim Achatz, and Rod Farrier and coaches Del Wubbena, Jere Chaffin, and Bill Pendell. The managers were Rusell Dice and Eldon Oswald.
The Richard Brown Trailblazer Award, given in memory of Brown, who died at the age of 102, will be on pause this year. The Trailblazer Award honors athletes/individuals from a distant generation who helped blaze the trail for past and present athletes at Hillman High School.
The Hillman High School Sports Hall of Fame will host an induction ceremony on Oct. 12 at Hillman High School, 26042 M-32.
Doors open at 1 p.m. and the ceremony begins at 2 p.m.
The new inductees will also be honored at halftime of the Tiger football game on Friday as the Tigers host Charlton Heston.
