BIZ BRIEFS: Holcim earns award, law firm opens

Holcim earns award

A series of sustainability measures centered around an Alpena cement plant has caught the attention of the Michigan Manufacturers Association, which awarded Holcim Alpena its inaugural Manufacturing Sustainability Award.

The award was presented at the annual Manufacturers Association Excellence Awards on Nov. 6.

The Manufacturing Sustainability Award recognizes innovative projects that improve the long-term sustainability of Michigan manufacturing through clean energy solutions.

Earlier this October, Holcim finished installing a solar array that is expected to allow the Alpena plant to self-generate 75% of its purchased power needs. In June 2023, Holcim opened an alternative fuels facility that co-processes materials to fuel 10% of the Alpena plant’s operations.
