No one hurt in Alpena RV fire
ALPENA — No one was hurt as firefighters doused a fifth-wheel camper that caught fire Friday night in Alpena.
Firefighters responded to the 500 block of McKinley Avenue at about 8 p.m. Friday on a report of a structure fire and reported explosion, the Alpena Fire Department said in a news release.
When they arrived, firefighters found the camper and a nearby vehicle engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly batted down the blaze and contained it to the camper and the nearby vehicle, both of which were a total loss. Emergency crews confirmed the camper was vacant at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters requested the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center Fire Department send a rapid intervention team on standby for firefighter safety.
In addition to the CRTC, the Alpena Police Department, DTE Energy, Alpena Power Co., and Alpena County Central Dispatch assisted in the response, which involved 20 personnel — seven on-duty emergency personnel, nine off-duty personnel, two auxiliary personnel, the deputy fire chief, and the fire chief.
