DDA releases New Year’s Eve celebration schedule, parking lot closed
The parking lot behind Mango’s Tequila Bar on the corner of 3rd Avenue and River Street will be closed to automobile traffic beginning at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, the Alpena Downtown Development Authority announced Friday.
Any cars parked in the lot will need to exit the parking lot by 11 a.m. so setup can begin for the Sunrise Side New Year’s Eve Celebration Tuesday night.
The parking lot will be closed until the event is over around 1 a.m.
The full schedule of events for the festivities:
∫ 5 p.m.: Burn barrels are lit for visitors to warm up by in the parking lot and alleyway
∫ 5 to 10 p.m.: Food, drinks, and apps at downtown bars and restaurants, including Black Sheep Pub, Red Brick Tap and Barrel, PIF Cider, Rusty Petunias Marketplace (open until midnight), Mango’s Tequila Bar (open until midnight), HopSide Brewery (open until midnight), JJ’s Steak and Pizza (open until midnight), Friendly Foodees (open until 1 a.m.), Players Pub and Grub (open until 2 a.m.), Sports Page (open until 2 a.m.), Latitudes Tavern (open until 2 a.m.)
∫ 5 to 9 p.m.: Dessert and cocoa bar at the Sunrise Side Co-Op Market Stop by the co-op’s new location in the Alpena Marina building, 400 E. Chisholm St.
∫ 6 to 8 p.m.: S’mores with Osborne Klein in the Pocket Park (by the fish mural)
∫ 7 to 10 p.m.: New Year’s Eve Party at PIF Cider, including live music from Conor Larkin from 7 to 9 p.m. Come see the giant apple drop from the ceiling at 10 p.m.; Traci St. Charles, of Lady of the Lake Yoga, will perform tarot card readings, with $20 buying a three-card reading
∫ 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.: Mocktails and midnight noodles at Friendly Foodees
∫ 9 to 11:15 p.m.: Electronic music with Dion Stepanski in the alleyway or, if the weather is bad, indoors at PIF Cider, 205 W. Chisholm St.
∫ 11:15 p.m. to 1 a.m.: Chris Chrzan DJ in the alleyway
∫ Midnight: Downtown will be filled with light to celebrate new beginnings in the year ahead
Come to the alleyway/parking lot area behind Mango’s to ring in 2025.
Instead of a ball drop, organizers will raise a lit sphere “sunrise” created by the Alpena Department of Public Works.
