PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena girls wrestling places 9th

The Alpena Girls wrestling team competed at the Don Furgeson Girls Wrestling Tournament Friday night.

Haley Stenz won first place in the 110-pound weight division by winning all three matches by pin. Carolyn Parker finished in third place in the 100-pound weight division with three pins and one loss in the evening. Maddie Taylor, competing in her first-ever wrestling tournament, had two losses in the 130-pound weight division.

The performances earned the Alpena girl wrestlers a ninth-place finish out of 26 teams in the tournament, despite only entering three wrestlers.

The girls will be traveling down to Mt. Morris on Monday for their next tournament.

ALCONA GIRLS LOSE TO MIO

The Alcona girls basketball team lost to Mio on Monday night, 68-33.

Leading Alcona was Elliyana Grimshaw with 17 points and Rilee Tracy with 10 points.

Alcona plays at Charlevoix at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
