PREP ROUNDUP: Hillman takes win, Alcona teams play
Hillman’s boys basketball team hosted their home opener on Monday night, winning their 52nd straight game within the North Star League since 2022. Hillman beat Oscoda 60-51.
Leading the way in the scoring solemn was senior guard Brenden Rouleau with 22 points. Junior wing Aedan Tucker would add 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior center Evan Crane would score 12 points and add seven rebounds. Senior point guard Cuyler Schultz led the team in assists with six and steals with four. Junior power forward J.T. Witzke came off the bench adding seven rebounds.
Hillman returns to action Thursday as they travel to Alcona.
ALCONA BOYS BASKETBALL TAKES WIN AGAINST FAIRVIEW
The Alcona High School boys basketball team defeated Fairview, 64-36, on Monday.
Evan Borsvold led the Tigers with 20 points. Other top scorers were Gavid Dellar with 12, Cole Upper with nine, and Ricky Schott with seven.
“The guys completely bought into the game plan and executed very well,” Alcona coach Alex Cole said. “Evan Borsvold and Gavin Deller showed why both of them are a handful in the post scoring 20 and 12 respectively. Jordan Benac really stepped up as a lock down defender and started a lot of fast breaks with his pass deflection and steals.”
ALCONA GIRLS BASKETBALL LOSES TO STANDISH
Alcona’s girls basketball team lost 23-50 to Standish on Tuesday.
Elliyana Grimshaw led the team with 10 points on the night.
ACC TEAMS LOSE
On Friday, the Alpena Community College’s women’s basketball team lost 67-51 to Glen Oaks Community College. Lead scorers were Jessie Ross with 19 points, Saige Flaugher with 11, and Jena Wambold with 10.
On Saturday, ACC’s men’s basketball team lost 75-48 to Southwestern Michigan. The Lumberjacks’ lead scorer was Bryce Roy with 15 points.
