Hillman back in first
The Hillman High School boys basketball team rebounded from a tough loss to Fairview on Monday, picking up a road victory against Mio, 47-43.
The win moved Hillman back into a tie for first place with Mio.
Hillman continued to have a balanced attack, with four players reaching double figures. Leading the scoring was Ty Muszynski, with 13 points and five rebounds. Aedan Tucker added 12 points and led the team in rebounds, with seven. Evan Crane’s 12 points and Brenden Rouleau’s 10 points rounded out the balanced attack.
The first quarter was very tight, with Mio taking an early 13-12 lead.
But, in the second quarter, Hillman’s defense settled in, allowing just one point for the quarter, despite starters Brenden Rouleau and Evan Crane sitting with two early fouls.
The bench that quarter gave Hillman a great spark, with Dylan Hiveley playing great defense and J.T. Witzke doing a nice job on the boards, contributing with six rebounds overall.
Hillman had a nice lead in the third quarter, extending the lead by 12, but Mio’s Jamison Cooper got hot and was hitting from everywhere behind the arc, even contested shots. He kept Mio in the game, cashing in on five three-pointers in the second half.
Leading scorer for Mio was Cooper, with 25, and Brody Fox, with 12.
“This was a must-win game for us after losing at home the other day versus Fairview,” Eric Muszynski, Hillman coach, said. “Very proud of the boys tonight, going on the road and picking up a great win. If you want to win league championships, you have to win on the road. Great effort tonight.”
