AHS girls basketball team loses to Harbor Springs on Senior Night, 69-34

ALPENA — The Alpena High School girls basketball team faced the Harbor Springs Rams on Senior Night, with seniors Natalie Maychen, Kiera Prue, and Faith Dragiewicz leading the Wildcats in scoring.

Despite the seniors taking the lead for the Wildcats, Alpena fell short to the Rams, losing 69-34.

The game began with Harbor Springs scoring first and quickly establishing a lead. By the end of the first quarter, Alpena trailed 17-6.

Harbor Springs maintained strong defensive pressure, frequently stealing the ball and limiting Alpena’s scoring opportunities. The Rams also capitalized on three-point shots, steadily increasing their lead.

At halftime, Alpena had 14 points, while Harbor Springs had 40.

Despite Alpena’s efforts to recover in the second half, Harbor Springs continued to control the pace of the game.

Kiera Prue contributed significantly to the Wildcats’ offense, scoring 27 of the team’s 34 total points.

Maychen added five points, and Dragiewicz scored two.

The Wildcats showed high energy, frequently attempting rebounds, but were often unable to convert those opportunities into points.

Harbor Springs maintained a large lead throughout the game, preventing Alpena from closing the gap.

The fast-paced nature of the matchup saw both teams moving quickly up and down the court, but the Rams consistently disrupted the Wildcats’ offense. By the end of the third quarter, Alpena trailed 57-25.

The game concluded with Harbor Springs securing a 69-34 victory.

The game marked the final home appearance for Alpena’s seniors, who were recognized for their contributions to the program.
