ALPENA — The Rotary Club of Alpena helps fund many community projects in Alpena through the hard work and dedication of its members.
The club’s fundraising has helped make the splash park at Starlite Beach a reality, improved the pier near the harbor, and transformed Rotary Island Park.
On March 6, the Rotary Club will host Brew on the Bay at the APlex, and the proceeds from the craft beverage tasting and auctions will help fund future endeavors.
Rotary President Jackie Krawczak said this year’s Brew on the Bay event will feature about 30 vendors who will be serving up small glasses of their beers, wines, ciders, and other cocktails to attendees. Also, Krawczak said there are more than 100 items up for auction.
Krawczak said the event has become one of the most popular in Alpena. She said because Brew on the Bay is held late in the winter, people are eager to get out of the house for a night out.
“It is super fun and a very social event,” she said. “It gives people a chance to get out, mingle, socialize, and sample some great beverages. Plus, it supports a good cause.”
Krawczak said a portion of this year’s proceeds will help pay for benches and picnic tables near the splash park and benches, picnic tables, and grills on Rotary Island. She said the balance will be used for other projects people in Alpena will benefit from.
Besides the vendors serving their drinks, Hungry Hippie and Nowicki’s Sausage Shoppe will be selling food for people to snack on, Krawczak said.
Tickets for Brew on the Bay are $25 each and ticket holders will receive a souvenir glass and six drink tickets. Additional drink tickets will be available for purchase.
Krawczak said tickets are available at Barrigar – Farm Bureau Insurance, the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce, Perch’s IGA, Star Staffing, and all Wolverine Credit Union branches. Tickets are also available from all Rotarians.
Tickets will only be sold at the door if they fail to sell out before the event.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and wraps up at 10 p.m., Krawczak said.
