PREP ROUNDUP: Hillman, Alcona boys win
Hillman boys basketball dropped a tough road game in Fairview, 48-46, slipping to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in the Little Dipper North Star League on Friday. The loss places Hillman in a tie with Mio for first place.
Hillman was down 15-7 keeping things close with four of five starters picking up two fouls in the opening quarter. The foul trouble would continue into the half with two of three starters picking up their third foul.
Heading into the fourth, down 12, Hillman weathered the storm and came back to take a one-point lead on a big three from Aedan Tucker with two minutes to go, but Fairview responded with a 4-0 run causing Hillman to follow as time would expire.
Leading the way for Hillman was sophomore Ty Muszynski with 17 points and six rebounds. Junior center Evan Crane added 12 points and senior guard Brenden Rouleau chipped in with nine.
“This was a tough one to take (Friday),” Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said. “I really feel like with all of our foul trouble tonight we had 12 minutes to play together, the first four minutes and the last eight. Proud of the fact that we battled and stuck to it and we did some things in which we shot ourselves in the foot but the foul trouble was very hard to overcome disrupting the flow of the game.”
ALCONA BEATS CHARLTON HESTON
The Alcona boys basketball team defeated Charlton Heston 54-45 on Friday.
Gavin Dellar led the Tigers with 16 points. Garrett Somers wasn’t far behind with 14 points. Ricky Schott and Evan Borsvold also added double digits with 10 points a piece.
“I’m so proud of the team effort tonight,” Alcona coach Alex Cole said. “In what is a tough place to play, our guys hit big shots down the stretch to get the win. We tried some new things defensively and they really executed the game plan well.”
