PREP ROUNDUP: Hillman heads to district final

Hillman’s boys basketball team advanced to its fourth-straight District Final defeating Posen 64-57 on Wednesday.

Hillman led from start to finish compounding leads as high as 21 points throughout the night. Leading the way for Hillman in the scoring column was Brenden Rouleau with 21 points. Junior Evan Crane had a great night scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds, and five steals. Sophomore Ty Muszynski added 12 points and pulled down six rebounds. Senior point guard Cuyler Schultz continued to cement his legacy within the storied program adding nine assists on the night placing him in the top four all-time for assists in a season and assist per game. Senior guard Brenden Rouleau went over 800 points in his career placing him in the top 15 scoring all-time.

Leading scorer for Posen was Andrew Budnick with 14 and John Ennest with 12.

Hillman returns to action tonight as they face off for their fourth-straight District Championship against Rogers City. The game is at 6 p.m. in Hillman.

“Great team effort tonight with multiple guys in double figures and Aedan Tucker knocking on the door with 9,” Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said. “It was great we got up 21 with about 2 minutes and 45 seconds left so we got everyone in even the JV call ups to gain some district experience. Cool for some guys to reach career milestones in Schultz and Rouleau. Really looking forward to the Championship game Friday.”

ALCONA BEATS ROSCOMMON

Alcona High School boys basketball defeated Roscommon on Wednesday, 64-57.

Leading Alcona was Garrett Somers with 25 points. Not far behind was Gaving Dellar with 19 points.

“Huge win in the district semi finals tonight against a tough Roscommon team,” Alcona coach Alex Cole said of Wednesday’s game. “The guys bought into the game plan and really executed tonight, especially on the offensive end. Garrett Somers (25) and Gavin Dellar (19) lead the scoring charge and really dominated the game all night. Great overall team win.”

The Tigers move on to face Oscoda at 7 p.m. tonight.

HILLMAN GIRLS BEAT ALCONA

The Hillman girls basketball team topped Alcona on Thursday, 42-32.

Leading Alcona was Elliyana Grimshaw with 13 points.

Leading Hillman was Hannah Crane with 15 points, Elise Flaugher with 13 points, and Madelyn Oswald with 10.
