ALPENA — The Alpena High School Wildcats hockey team faced the Petoskey High School Northmen in a highly competitive matchup during the annual Purple Game at Northern Lights Arena, an event dedicated to supporting cancer support group Friends Together.
Both teams brought intensity to the ice, making for an action-packed contest that remained tight until the final moments.
The opening period saw aggressive play from both sides, with the Wildcats controlling much of the offensive pressure. Alpena registered more shots on goal than Petoskey, but neither team could break through, leaving the game scoreless after the first 17 minutes.
Despite the high pace, solid defensive play and strong goaltending at both ends of the rink kept the scoreboard untouched.
The second period followed a similar script, with both teams battling for an advantage. Alpena continued to press offensively, but shots either missed the net or were turned away.
