No paper Tuesday, Whitmer declares state of emergency
ALPENA — Due to the continued power outage in Alpena, The News and other downtown businesses are still without power. Because of the outage, there will be no paper on Tuesday.
This afternoon, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for 10 Michigan counties to support recovery after the severe ice storms. The counties include Otsego, Oscoda, Montmorency, Presque Isle, Emmet, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Mackinac and Alpena.
By declaring a state of emergency, Whitmer has made available all state resources in cooperation with local response and recovery efforts in the designated areas, the Michigan State Police news release said. The declaration provides that the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) will coordinate state efforts.
