Structure fire on U.S.-23 South causes heavy damage

On Saturday at 2:59 a.m., the Alpena Township Fire Department was dispatched for a commercial structure fire at 2568 U.S.-23 South, according to a Monday press release.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire conditions on the north end of the building in the backside of the building. Immediate assistance was requested from Sanborn Township Fire and the City of Alpena Fire Department.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the two north end occupants of the building, limiting the other four occupants’ businesses to smoke and water damage.

Michigan State Police Fire Investigators concluded that the cause of the fire is “undetermined” due to the extent and intensity of the fire.

No civilians or firefighters were injured or killed due to the fire.
