KEITH STANLEY TITUS

Keith was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Cheboygan, Michigan to the late Carl and Valborg (Keldsen) Titus. On Nov. 11, 1982, he married Virginia Tacchino. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2021. After graduating from his Master’s program at CMU, he worked in Cadillac, Michigan in radio and founded the Cadillac Footliters, a community theatre which is still in operation. He then returned to Alpena where he taught Communication at Alpena Community College for 30 years and for 25 years was the Producer/Director of Thunder Bay Theatre, a professional stage company located in Alpena, which he founded in 1967. He acted professionally with several theatres in the Midwest.

Keith was active politically in Northeastern Michigan as a three-term county commissioner and two-term president of NEMCOG (the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments). In the fall of 1997, he and his wife were ordained in the U.C.C. and installed as pastors at Christ Community Church. He has served on regional and state boards in his capacities as teacher, theatre producer, union leader and minister. Keith is the author of 12 theatrical productions (original, adaptation, and compilation), three books, and a handful of short stories. In 1998, he founded and led the organization RE-MEMBER, which serves the Lakota People on Pine Ridge Reservation.

Keith is survived by five children, Shannon Cook, Dana (Robert) Barnhardt, Kirstine (Michael) Furtaw, Justin (April) Titus, Christian Titus; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three of his children, Toni Renee Titus, Sam Titus, and Neal Titus.

Visitation will take place Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ from noon until the funeral service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert Case officiating. Arrangements have been made by Bannan Funeral Home.
