LARRY P. JACOBS
LARRY P. JACOBS
March 17, 1941-Feb. 17, 2023
A Father’s Day Memorial to our Dad, Larry P. Jacobs, who passed quickly after his lengthy illness became unsurmountable, Feb. 17, 2023. We, his children Glen of Midland, Michigan; Scott of Lubbock, Texas; Cherie of Jacksonville, Florida, remember the good times together growing up as a family both in Midland, Michigan and Houston, Texas.
Larry was born in Antigo, Wisconsin, March 17, 1941 the middle of three children, Sandra (Darwin) Ristow of Alpena/Florida and brother Kenneth (Darlene) Jacobs of Kansas City, Kansas; both survive him,
A graduate of AHS 1960, ACC 1962 and Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University 1967. Dad had considered going into a medical career field as he continued his education at CMU; and full-time job (starting June 1962) in a chem lab of Dow Chemical Company, Midland, Michigan. When computer technology exploded in the 1960s he was soon hooked to be part of Dow’s Midland office in setting up mainline computer system for Midland’s division.
In 1976 he was transferred to Houston, Texas to continue with computer information technology for the Dowell Division. At the beginning of the oil bust of the early 1980s he was transferred back to Midland, Michigan, continuing in Telecommunications at Dow Chemical Corp. headquarters.
He retired from Dow Sept. 1993 after 33 years. The next 14 years he was employed with Johnson Controls in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In the field he knew so well, telecommunications.
Dad was actively involved in Scouting with all three of his children including Cub, Boy, and Girl Scouts both in Midland and Houston. He also spent many volunteer hours with Memorial Band Boosters and American Lutheran Churches of Texas and Midland.
His final retirement March 2011, found him back in Midland, volunteering with several organizations; Toni and Trish House, Senior Services, AARP tax aide and his favorite using his many organizational skills with Michigan Blood which became Versiti.
We say goodby remembering family vacations, extended family gatherings and holidays like Father’s Day.
