JAMES ELWOOD MONETTE

James Elwood Monette, 89, of Alpena passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.
Jim was born in Cathro on Dec. 30, 1933, to the late Elwood and Hazel (Carriveau) Monette. He was the oldest of eight children, attended Poland School and then St. Anne School. He was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Germany. Returning to Alpena he worked at the Huron Portland Cement Plant and later The Advertiser. He married Elaine Kline on July 28, 1978. Jim enjoyed time spent at Hubbard Lake with family and friends for many years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion participating in many fundraising activities, especially working BINGO there as well as for St. John the Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Elaine; son, James Monette; daughters, Cheryl (Lou) Falco, Cindy Bernardi, Denise Coventry, all of Florida; son, Mark (Vicky Labato) Monette of Colorado; stepchildren, Laurie (John) Kaiser of Wisconsin, Greg (Colleen) Jerome of New York; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim is also survived by brother, Gary (Audrey) Monette; sisters, Faye Schroeder, Betty Pritchard, Connie (Alain) Hurdle, Marjy (Rob) Gilmer; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Monette was preceded in death by brother, Clyde Monette and sister, Shirley Haken.
Visitation will take place at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at noon with the Rev. Tyler Bischoff officiating, followed by military honors by VFW Alpena Post 2496. Arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery
