Jean Therese Nowak, 75, of Alpena, passed away at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023. She was a loving, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whom will be dearly missed. Jean was born on July 31, 1948 in Alpena, Michigan to the late Clement and Phyllis (Hamilton) Zbytowski. She was the third of nine children. She was a graduate of Alpena High School and later Alpena Community College with an associate degree. On Oct. 26, 1968 Jean married the love of her life Joseph Nowak at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Herron, Michigan.

There were many things that Jean enjoyed through her life such as, bowling, puzzles, traveling, going to the casino, playing games with her grandkids and watching them play sports. But what brought her the greatest joy was spending time with her family. Having a huge generous heart, Jean always put others before herself and made sure they were taken care of. She worked for Alpena Community College for 33 years as a custodian.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Joseph, three children, Ray Nowak, Greg (Dawn Anderson) Nowak, and Jolene (Jim) Price, two grandchildren, Alex Shull, and Carson Price, and eight siblings, Mike Zbytowski, Elaine Fortier, Carolyn (Cal) Longcore, Valerie Gaylord, Sherry Neuman, Donna (Randy) Nevins, Pat (Kathy) Zbytowski, and Audrey Wright, and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends for visitation at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023 from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Father Tyler Bischoff as celebrant.
