ROBERT LEWIS MAROTTA
Sept. 25, 1937 – Jan. 7, 2024
Robert Lewis Marotta, age 86, was called home to the Lord on Jan. 7, 2024 after two strokes. Robert was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on Sept. 25, 1937 to Edna and Joseph Marotta. He was very talented and developed a strong passion for Baseball. He made final cuts to play for the Boston Red Sox and received awards from Boston Braves Hall of Famer Sibby Sisti, but in 1954 Robert made the decision to support our country and joined the Air Force as an MP First then life took him in the direction he was meant to be in. He was stationed in Alpena, Michigan, where he met his future wife. Robert married Anna Mae Cain on May 30, 1956. They spent 68 years together and had two daughters.
Robert worked as Deputy Sheriff in Ingham County (Lansing) and was one of two deputies who broke records in driving skills and on the shooting range. He had so many interesting stories to share with his children and grandchildren. He braved many tragedies in life including a house fire where his family lost everything. But it only made him stronger and brought the family together in ways unimaginable. He retired from Abitibi in 1993 as a foreman and was able to enjoy golfing and spending time with family and friends.
In 2004 he moved to Nashville, Tennessee with his daughter, grandson and wife and worked as an extradition agent where he transported prisoners all across the United States including Hawaii. He loved the job and meeting new people. He would treat inmates with respect and dignity and pass them smokes while on the road. He was a good man who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He had the best work ethic and only encouraged everyone to be their best. He was a father figure to his grandchildren who lived with him and the person his family looked up to.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Ethal, Lorrie, Claire and Shirley, his brothers, Joseph Marotta and Johnny O’Conner, and son in law Howard Nevins. He is survived by his brother Michael Marotta, and sister, Anne Marie Rondeau, his wife Anna Mae Marotta, daughters Melody Marotta and Cindy Nevins, grandchildren, Breanne Eliis (Curtis), Courtney TenBarge (Clint), Bryndell Marotta, Landen Marotta, and closest to him and his best friend, Dustin Marotta, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
