KELLY SHARON IRVING

Oct. 17, 1960 – Nov. 9, 2024

Kelly Sharon Irving, age 64, of Alpena, entered heaven peacefully at home on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024.

Kelly was born in Mount Pleasant, on Oct. 17, 1960, the oldest child of Robert and Bethel (Watt) Grandy. Kelly lived in Lake Orion before moving to Harrisville in elementary school. Kelly was married to Gary M. Irving on June 19, 1982, in Harrisville, and they began their life together, making their home in Alpena.

Kelly first worked at Waldon Books and soon became the store manager. Later, she returned to college, first at ACC and then on to CMU, to get her teaching degree in special education. Kelly’s first year teaching was for Hillman Public Schools before moving to Alpena Public Schools, teaching at Hubbard Lake, Besser, and Ella White.

Kelly and Gary raised three children: Hannah, Zachary, and Ely. Kelly earned her master’s degree while working, raising her family, and being the union representative at Ella White. She loved her family, had a passion for teaching children, was an avid reader, and enjoyed hiking and camping in the beautiful outdoors of Michigan.

Kelly passed away on Nov. 9, 2024, after a long battle with COPD. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary; their daughter, Hannah (Sean) Kelly; her sons, Zach(Jesse) and Ely; her beloved granddaughter, Lydia Kelly; and two sisters, Tracy Rich and Holly Grandy Miller (Bryan) as well as their children Mckenna Rich, and Ryce and Lake Miller. Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Her vibrant spirit and love for life touched everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Per Kelly’s wishes she has been taken for cremation. A celebration of Kelly’s life will be held in May of 2025 with an announcement in a future edition of the Alpena News. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
