Richard E. Wilson

April 19, 1930 – Nov. 14, 2024

Richard E. Wilson, 94, of Alpena, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at home after a short but fierce health battle.

Richard Wilson was born April 19, 1930, in Parkersburg, West Virginia to the late Harry and Emma Jane (Caltrider) Wilson. In 1933, the Wilsons moved to Mount Pleasant, where Richard grew up. In 1949, he met Rose Marie Frick while both worked at the Giant Supermarket. On July 29, 1950, Dick and Rose were married. She preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2022. Dick enlisted in the Navy Reserves in 1947 and was later drafted to the Marines in 1952. Dick was sent to Japan towards the end of the Korean War. After the war, he worked for MichCon in Mount Pleasant as a draftsman. He was later promoted to office manager for the Alpena office, where he worked until retiring in 1991.

Dick thoroughly enjoyed his time outdoors and with his family. Rose and Dick loved to travel with some of their most prized trips including visiting Rose’s homeland of Switzerland and going on an Alaskan cruise. He could be found on his boat “The Golden Goose” during summer days and loved his weeks of camping at Ess Lake with family and close family friends. In the fall, Dick loved to hunt and spent many days at Trails End Camp. He was a member of All Saints of Alpena, Kiwanis-president, Brown Trout board — 16 years, Home Builders Association, Alpena Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, and Nemroc board.

Dick never missed one of his grandkids dance recitals or speedskating meets and was proud of his family.

Surviving are his children, Julie (Mike) Mack, Jane (Tim) Modrzynski; four granddaughters, Krystal (Jason) Carter, Tiffany (Adam) Buehler, Elizabeth (Ethan) Wojda, Alysia Modrzynski; four great-grandkids, Violet, Owen, Emma, Isabella; sister, Marilynn (Stan) Turner; and multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
