DONALD GEORGE WITT

Don George Witt, 86, went to Heaven early in the morning of Dec. 28, 2024, at Turning Brook of Alpena.
Don was born on May 15, 1938, in Alpena, to Herman and Ella (Werner) Witt. He was preceded in death by five of his siblings: Martin Witt, Margaret Zitlaw, Paul Witt, Otto Witt, and Phyllis Stosick. He is survived by his sister, Fydelis Webster.
Don was in the US Army 82nd Airborne, the Michigan National Guard, and the Wisconsin National Guard. He attended Alpena Community College for two years and graduated from Stout State University in Menomonie, Wisconsin, with a B.S. degree in Industrial Education and an M.S. degree in Vocational Education. He was an instructor at the Racine Technical Institute in Racine, Wisconsin, and an instructor at the Western Wisconsin Technical Institute in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He furthered his career in solar energy in Minneapolis, then ended his career as the Building and Grounds Administrator at Alpena Community College.
He Marrie Don is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marie, sons Charles (Karen) of Alexandria, Virginia, and Michael (Rebecca) Witt of Ossineke. He is also survived by his three daughters Jessica Higgins (Michael Dhaseleer) of Laingsburg, Becky- (Ray Wolfe) of Lansing, and Chrissy (Brian Carriveau) of Alpena. He has been blessed with 11 grandchildren: Gabriel, Ethan, Madison, Noah, Charisse, Vivian, Mckinley, Cole, Toby, Claire, and Kiel.
A special thanks goes to Turning Brook where Don spent nine months, and especially to the staff in Building #3 who treated him with dignity and love. Also, a thank-you goes to Hospice of Michigan in Alpena for their dedication and care.
All of Don’s family wants to remind you “If you were any better, you’d have to change your name to Don.”
Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, from 2 to 8 p.m. with military honors by Alpena VFW Post 2496 at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at TriPoint Church of God from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Potter.
