JAMES GREGORY SIMMONS

James Gregory Simmons, 79, of Alpena, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at Medilodge of Alpena.

James was born in Chicago on Aug. 13, 1945, to the late Harold and Evelyn (Benner) Simmons. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and retired as a Michigan State Police Trooper in 1994, following 25 years of service. On Dec. 20, 1966, he married Glenice Cole. She preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2016. James enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, and being in the outdoors.

Surviving are his two children, Tina (Dennis) Klosowski, Tim (Kerri) Simmons, two grandchildren, Caleb Simmons, Brennan Klosowski; companion, Mary Zeller; a brother, Tom (Jane) Simmons; and brother-in-law Don Prince.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Prince.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon with Pastor Timothy Decker officiating. Military honors will be accorded to him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
