JOAN MARIE SKIBA
Feb. 11, 1964 – Dec. 30, 2024
Joan “Joanie” Marie Skiba, 60, of Alpena, passed away Dec. 30, 2024, with her husband and son at her side.
Born in Alpena on Feb. 11, 1964, Joanie was the cherished daughter of Donald and Esther Leaym, who preceded her in death, as did her brother-in-law, Bruce Stevens. Joanie’s spirit of love and family was nurtured by her siblings, Derald (Susan) Leaym of Alpena, Brenda Stevens of Alpena, Susie (William) Bahling of Phoenix, Arizona, and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Alpena High School, Joanie’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish a local dog grooming business, which she ran with passion and dedication for many years. Her love for animals shone brightly, especially for her beloved dog Spanky.
Joanie’s life was filled with love, not only for her furry friends but also for her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, John Skiba, and together they shared a life built on mutual respect and unwavering support. Joanie was a loving mother to Jordan (Stephanie) Romel, whose pride in her son’s accomplishments knew no bounds. She was also a doting grandmother to Leo and twins Jack and Bridget Romel, whose lives were enriched by her warmth and nurturing spirit.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2024, at 4 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home with the Rev. Leslie Nye officiating. There will be an hour of visitation beginning at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Huron Humane Society.
