News obituary, birth announcement policy

The Alpena News does not accept any handwritten obituaries. Family members may submit typed obituaries, but must provide the name of the funeral home handling arrangements so the death can be verified. Basic information without a photo can be printed at no charge, but longer obituaries with photos are printed with a cost. Obituaries are due by 8 p.m. to run in the next day’s paper.
