Arlene Helen Lay, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on Jan. 23, 2025, at her home in Hubbard Lake, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on April 12, 1932, in Alpena, Arlene was the cherished daughter of the late Herman and Helen (Damrose) Kindt. Her life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith, which she nurtured until her last breath.
Arlene was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Lay, with whom she shared 72 years full of adventure and companionship. Together, they traveled the country in their motorhome, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Arlene’s spirit of exploration and her joy in discovering new places with Raymond were among the highlights of their earlier years.
Left to honor Arlene’s legacy are her devoted children: Tom Lay of Hubbard Lake, Sandy (Ken) Krome of Vassar, Fred Lay of Hubbard Lake, and Sally (Don) Johnstone of Alpena. She was a proud grandmother to Christina, Kendra, and Gail, and a doting great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren. Each of them will carry forward her lessons of love and kindness.
Arlene is also survived by her caring brother, Fred (Joanne) Kindt. She was preceded in death by her siblings Inez, Herb, Ione, and Harry. The family bonds she fostered were strong and filled with warmth, a reflection of her loving nature.
Throughout her life, Arlene was deeply involved in her church, where she found great solace and strength. Her faith was unwavering, and it guided her through life’s challenges and joys with grace.
