GENE R. KOLNOWSKI

Gene R. Kolnowski, age 85, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2024, after an extended illness. At the time of his passing, Gene was living in an Assisted Living facility in Elkridge, Maryland.

Gene was born on Sept. 25, 1939, in Alpena, to the late Raymond J. and Grace F. (Filipiak) Kolnowski. He attended the University of Michigan College of Engineering and received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1963. Gene continued his education at Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering and received a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1972.

After graduation from University of Michigan, Gene relocated to the Baltimore, Maryland area and accepted a position as an electrical engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company which subsequently became Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems. Gene worked a total of 47 years, retiring in May of 2010.

Gene enjoyed traveling, photography, sailing, astronomy, HAM Radio operations, bicycling and walking.

Gene is survived by his five siblings: Judi Generous of Grand Blanc; Robert Kolnowski (Gary Markyvech) of Howell; Angie (Bill) Bruski of Alpena; Thomas (Peggy) Kolnowski of Liberty Hill, Texas; and Kevin (Shirley) Kolnowski of Walnut Creek, California. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Alpena at a later date.
