HAROLD FILIPIAK
March 25, 1940 – Dec. 30, 2024
Harold Filipiak, 84, of Midland, died peacefully at home on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024. He was born March 25, 1940, in Alpena, son of the late Stanley and Cecila (Sowa) Filipiak. He grew up on the Thunder Bay River – swimming, fishing, and ice skating, and on July 29, 1961, he married Katie McMillan in Alpena, and started their family: two sons, Brian and Chad. In 1968, the family moved to Midland, and Harold began a long and fulfilling career in construction. He built four houses, remodeled several, and worked on many projects all around Midland and the state. In his retirement, he and Katie continued working on their home and devoted a great deal of time to creating a beautiful yard, winning recognition from the community for their efforts. They also devoted a good deal of time in helping create and maintain some beautiful areas around their church, Calvary Baptist Church.
Katie predeceased Harold in 2019. He is survived by his sons: Brian (significant other: Amy Singer) Filipiak of Plymouth and Chad (Kelly) Filipiak of Lafayette, Indiana; grandchildren: Neil (Mari Hsu) Cole-Filipiak of Castro Valley, California, Luke (Asia) Filipiak of New Albany, Indiana, and Jeremy Filipiak of Nashville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his sisters Julie Stone, Janice MacCaughan, and Romaine Grundy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Ray and Norm.
Harold wished to not have a service. He and Katie will be interred in Alpena, in the spring.
