JAMES JOSEPH SZCZUKOWSKI

James Joseph Szczukowski, 99, of Alpena passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center-Alpena.

James was born in Alpena on Sept. 2, 1925, to the late Julius and Clara (Werda) Szczukowski. Jim served in the United States Army during WWII. On March 26, 1951, he married Nathalie Sabourin. She preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 2000. Jim owned and operated Alpena Dental Laboratory for many years. He was a member of numerous community organizations, including the National and Michigan Dental Associations, Catholic Central’s Athletic Boosters, Thunder Bay Arts Council, and served on the City of Alpena Zoning Board of Appeals, to name a few. In May of 2023, Jim was honored to be able to go to Washington DC touring the World War II memorial, on an honor flight with Mid-Michigan Honor Flight.

Surviving are his three daughters, Karanina (Christopher) Germony, Kristen (Patrick) Isaacs, Susan (Sean O’Brien) Szczukowski; four grandchildren, Daniel (Alyssa) Germony, Emily Germony, Ryan (Haliza) Isaacs, Leslie (Dennis Pontius) Isaacs; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Edrian, Thea, Liam, Daegan; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Szczukowski was preceded in death by four siblings, Imogene Bates, Myron Szczukowski, Robert Szczukowski, and Gerald Szczukowski.

Memorial visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at noon followed by military honors accorded him by VFW Alpena Post 2496.
