MICHAEL SMIGELSKI

April 25, 1932 – Dec. 31, 2024

Michael Anthony Smigelski, age 92, of Long Lake, passed away at Medilodge in Alpena on Dec. 31, 2024.

He was born in Krakow Township to Michael Anna (Modrzynski) Smigelski on April 25, 1932.

On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Anna Szatkowski at St. Casimir Catholic Church. He served in the United States Army from Dec. 8, 1954, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 8, 1956. He retired from Abitibi in 1992 following 34 years of employment. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, playing cards with family and friends and working in the woods. He loved being the life of the party, first to arrive and the last to leave. His jokes will live on in the memories of all who heard them.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna; five children, Deborah (Kenneth) Worm of Waters, Michael Jr. (Ginger) Smigelski of Charlotte, Nancy (Don) Denomme of Alpena, Gary Smigelski of Potterville and Dale Smigelski of Commerce Township; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Petrosky of South Lyon and a sister-in-law, Virginia Smigelski of Posen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Florian, Edward and Harry (Stella); sisters, Viola (Walter) Nowaczewski, Eleanore (Ed) Smith and Virginia (Stanley) Wozniak.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 followed by military honors accorded by Posen VFW Post 7804 at 6:45 and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at St. Casimir Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Charlie Donajkowski officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan in memory of Michael Smigelski.
