KENNETH HEIN
Sept. 27, 1942 – Feb. 8, 2025
Kenneth Hein, 82, of Troy, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. He was born Sept. 27, 1942, to Carl and Regina “Virginia” Marie nee Burzych Hein in Detroit and raised in Lachine.
He graduated from Alpena Catholic Central High School in 1960 and Alpena Community College in 1966. In 1963, he worked at Denton Construction then C.J. Rogers. He served proudly in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970 achieving rank of Sargent. He served in Vietnam with the 7th Regiment, 1st Calvary Division earning an Army Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart. He returned to continue his career with Detroit Edison while achieving his Engineering degree at Lawrence Technological University in 1980. He retired after 40 years at Detroit Edison in 2006. On March 22, 1969 Ken married Carol Lee at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alpena.
Ken was a “jack of all trades,” he enjoyed farming, genealogy, bowling, traveling, hunting, and spending time up at “the cabin” reminiscing with family and friends. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Birmingham/Troy Post, where he served as chaplain. He was also a member of the VFW in Alpena. He was best known as the family historian.
Ken is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Carol Hein. His children Michael Hein (Alisha) and Kathleen Durak (Ronald); grandchildren Connor Durak, Riley Durak, Liam Hein, and Zoey Hein. Also survived by his brother Gary Hein and sister Carlene Przykucki and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in everlasting life by his mother and father, Regina and Carl Hein, sister Nancy Bergquist, nephew Robert Bergquist, brothers-in-law Frank Przykucki and Bob Bergquist.
Family will receive friends, Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, 3 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons – Price Chapel, 3725 Rochester Rd., (btwn Big Beaver & Wattles), 248-689-0700. Funeral Mass Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025 at noon at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 581 E 14 Mile Rd., Clawson. Visitation at the church begins at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made to the Wounded Warriors.
