LUCILLE M. KROLL

Lucille M. Kroll, age 78, of Presque Isle, passed away at Medilodge of Green View on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025.

She was born in Hamtramck to Theophilus and Sophia (Srebnik) Szczerowski on July 11, 1946.

Lucy graduated from Alpena High School in 1964. She graduated from Alpena Hollywood School of Beauty in 1969 and received her state license as a beautician. On June 21, 1969, she married James Kroll at St. Casimir Catholic Church. Lucille along with her husband, Jim were co-owners of the Birch Hill Grocery and was known as “Lucy the check-out lady” to her customers. She was an avid gardener of both vegetables and owers. Lucy was an excellent Polish cook and baker. This is one of the many ways she showed her love to her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and even making wedding dresses for her family. Lucy was a dedicated member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and its Rosary Sodality.

She is survived by her husband, James; five sons, James (Chantelle) Kroll II of Grand Rapids, Mark (Sandra) Kroll of Gaylord, David (Julie) Kroll of Lake Orion, Daniel (Jocelyn) Kroll, PharmD of Traverse City and Joshua (Laura) Kroll, DO of Interlochen; a niece who was like a daughter, Kaitlyn Tree; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Adam, Brendan, Aidan, Evan, Ethan, Jack, Luke, Evelyn, Simon and Lydia; siblings, Rich (Mary) Szczerowski, Ben (Kathy) Szczerowski, Edward (Vickey) Szczerowski, Walter (Bev) Szczerowski, Helen (Larry) Light, Frances (Bill) Anderson and Annie (Cody) Lancaster.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Theophilus and Sophia; two brothers, Frank and Thomas; and a grandson, Theophilus.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. where the St. Casimir Rosary Sodality will lead the Rosary at 6:30 followed by a prayer service a 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday at St. Casimir Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. with Fr. Charlie Donajkowski officiating.

Interment will take place in the spring at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Casimir Rosary Sodality in memory of Lucille Kroll.
