PETER JAMES MURPHY

Peter James Murphy, 70, of Alpena passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Alpena.

Peter was born April 10, 1954, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, to James and Joan (Marion) Murphy. He served in the United States Air Force and later retired from the Air National Guard in 2003 after 22 years. On Oct. 30, 1981, he married Annette Effrick. He was a member of American Legion, enjoyed fishing, hunting and coaching hockey for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Annette; son J.P. (Nan) Murphy; stepdaughter, Laura (Brian) Coleman; grandchildren, Emma, Henry; his mother, Joan Murphy; five siblings, Diane (Douglas) Paran, Robert Murphy, David (Kathy) Murphy, Kathleen Murphy; Janet Sullins; sister-in-law, Terry Murphy; several nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his father, James Murphy and brother, Dennis Murphy.

Cremation arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
