LOTTIE ELIZABETH COUTURE

Jan. 23, 1936 – March 19, 2025

Lottie Elizabeth Couture, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, in Alpena, at the age of 89. Born on Jan. 23, 1936, in Posen, she was the cherished daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine (Pelc) Roznowski. Lottie’s life was a testament to the power of family, love, and tradition.

Lottie’s early years in Posen were filled with the warmth of a large and loving family. She was a sister to Mary Jane Lamp, Lorraine Gorton, Edward (Sue) Roznowski, Marcia (Butch) Wolozyk, Barbara Straughen, and Anthony (Karen) Roznowski, Jr. She also held a special place in her heart for her sisters-in-law, Leona and Martha Roznowski. Lottie was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Wozniak, her brothers, Norbert and Walter Roznowski, and brothers-in-law, Paul Wozniak, Bill Straughen, Don Gorton, and Bernie Lamp who left this world before her.

The story of Lottie’s life was one of enduring love and partnership. She met her beloved husband, Bernard Couture, while working as a secretary at the local cement plant. Their love blossomed, and they were united in marriage on May 3, 1958, in Posen. Together, they built a life filled with joy and the laughter of children. Lottie was a devoted mother to Bernard P. (Donna) Couture, Jr., Audrey (Dan) Abel, Jeanne (Greg) Whitlow, Tim (Stephanie) Couture, and Christine (Jay) Coultes. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Scott (Autumn) Couture, Anna Couture (Nathan Lenard), Ben Abel, Tom Abel, Delaney (Daniel) Keiffer, Carina Whitlow, Sadie Couture, Caden Couture, Mia Couture, Ally (Marco) Wieser, and Abby (Theron) Tracey. She was also a doting great-grandmother to Leo and Luca Wieser, and Molly, Maggie, and Roland Tracey.

Lottie’s life was a rich tapestry woven with the threads of her many interests and the love she had for her family. She was an exceptional cook, known for her paczki’s that brought a taste of her Polish heritage to the table. Her lasagna was always a favorite as well. Lottie had a passion for sewing and knitting, and she passed on her knowledge to her family, teaching them invaluable life skills. Lottie’s home was the heart of the family, with Sunday dinners that continued to bring everyone together, even as her children grew into adults.

Those who knew Lottie will remember her for the love that she so freely gave. She was the embodiment of selflessness, always putting others before herself. Her presence was a comfort, and her guidance a steady hand that led her family through life’s many challenges.

Lottie’s legacy is one that will be cherished and carried forward by the many lives she touched. Her family, a testament to her love and dedication, will continue to honor her memory by living the values she instilled in them. Lottie’s passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her loved ones.
