MARYLIN LOUISE BAUER
Marylin Louise Bauer, 93, of Alpena passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at her home.
Marylin Louise LaComb was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Alpena to the late Ivan and Viola (Wikaryasz) LaComb. On June 28, 1952, she married Rudolph Bauer. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2023.
Marylin grew up on a family farm near French and LaComb Roads and spent summers in Presque Isle. As a teenager, she worked at the Birch Hill Grocery Dairy Bar while spending summers at the family’s cottage on Bell Bay.
She graduated from St. Anne’s High School and Alpena County Normal. She taught kindergarten at Hinks & Piper Schools for several years before moving to Fort Knox with her husband Rudy during his military service. She taught English as a second language to Puerto Rican Army recruits. Upon completion of military service, Marylin and Rudy returned to Alpena and raised a family and operated Alpena Glass Co. Marylin worked as a bookkeeper managing the office from 1974 through 1990.
Marylin was involved with the Alpena Winter Carnival during the State of Michigan Sesquicentennial Celebrations in 1987 and was crowned queen that year. She was involved in the success of Children’s Closet, Shelter Inc., and any child or adult who needed to learn to read. She was a lifelong educator. Marylin was a member of All Saints Parish and considered St. Bernard’s her home church.
She was interested in family genealogy, researching and finding relatives throughout the U.S. and Canada, visiting many of them. Attending family reunions or visiting her children and grandchildren, family was extremely important to her. Marylin’s happy place was on a full lawn chair just in the water on the beach at their cottage on Long Lake. In retirement, she traveled with Rudy and spent winters in Cape Coral, Florida and Payson, Arizona.
Surviving are her five children, Diane Bauer, Deborah (Mike Myers) Bauer, David (Jill) Bauer, Dan (Michelle) Bauer, Denise (Al Kuchnicki) Bauer; 7 grandchildren, Trevor (Justina) Crow, Ryan (Hollie) Crow, Hope (Jon Straley) Bauer, Eric (LeAnn) Bauer, Rebecca Bauer, Bella Bauer, Jack Bauer; 12 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Zoe, Rowen, Avander, Dominic, Daylin, Aleksander, Charlie, Murphy, Cooper, Desmond, Abigail; and sister, Jane (George) Melville.
Marylin was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lena Bauer and sister, Lorraine Ladkau.
Memorial visitation will take place Wednesday at Bannan Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. with the rosary at 3 p.m. and parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorial visitation will continue Thursday at St. Bernard Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Emmanuel officiating.
