BARBARA JANE BOWES

Barbara Jane Bowes of Gaylord, Michigan, and formerly of Bay City, Michigan, passed away at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village Gaylord on March 20, 2025, at the age of 79. Barbara was born July 20, 1945, to the late Robert J and Gertrude E (nee Mackey) Bowes in Darby, Pennsylvania.

Barbara attended Lincoln Consolidated High School, Ypsilanti, Michigan, through the eleventh grade, moving to Alpena, Michigan, in 1962 and graduating from Alpena High School in 1963. Barbara continued her education at Eastern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in education in 1967. She also earned a Master’s degree in education from Saginaw Valley State University in 1975. Barbara went on to teach grade school in the Saginaw School System for 37 years before retiring.

Barbara was a very active participant in the Saginaw and Midland Humane Societies and the Michigan Sheltie Rescue where she taught dog obedience.

Surviving are her brothers Thomas W (Kerry) of Elk Rapids, Michigan, and James S (Jeanette) of Jackson, Michigan, and grandson Kenneth C Bowes of Midland, Michigan. In addition to her parents, a son Charles R Bowes preceded her in death.

Per her wishes, Barbara has been taken to Gaylord Community Funeral Home for cremation. A celebration of life will be held later this summer and her ashes will be inurned in the Tittabawassee Township Westside Cemetery near Freeland, Michigan.
