MABEL KANIA

MABEL KANIA

Feb. 8, 1935 – April 14, 2025

Mabel Lillian Kania, age 90, of Posen, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2025.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1935, in Alpena to Martin and Veronica (Budnick) Wcisel.

On Sept. 4, 1954, she married Eugene Kania at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Mabel was the most generous, kind hearted and the hard working person you may ever meet. Raising four children on her own after her husband passed at the age of 41 was never easy for her, but you never heard her complain. She owned and operated the family farm where she worked tirelessly all while working at Cadillac Products where she retired after 35 years of service. She enjoyed the farm very much and when she “retired” from farming she would make her suggestions known. Which meant “do it this way”. She also loved having a big beautiful garden. She always received a lot of compliments on how clean her garden was, not a weed had a chance to sprout. She was also known for making the best dill pickles and strawberry cheesecake around. Mabel thoroughly enjoyed visits with friends and family, when an occasional Spitzer game was more than likely to be played.

Mabel is survived by her children: Gerald Kania, Margaret (Wayne) Romel, and Marcia (Larry) Budnick; grandchildren, Rodney (Rochelle) Kania, Robert (Angie) Kania, Sarah (Todd) Kuel, Brittany Bock (Travis), Branden (Crystal) Kania, Nicole (Andy) Peacock, Brooke Resendez and Andrew Budnick; great-grandchildren, Chelsea (Matt) Aube, Emily Chrzan, Benjamin, Brady, Sawyer and Saylor Kuel, Finley and Kensley Bock, Isabella and Jose Resendez, Adonis, Averly, and Ashlyn Kania and Elliott and Russell Peocock; siblings, Harry (Lois) Wcisel, Lorraine (James) Smigelski and a special friend, Norman Kandal.

She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Veronica; husband, Eugene Kania Sr.; children, Theresa and Eugene “Gene” Kania Jr.; daughter-in-law Sue Kania; siblings Ray Wcisel, Louis Wcisel and Marvin Wcisel; sisters in-law, Charmaine Berg and Barbara Wcisel.

Friends may visit at St. Dominic Catholic Church on Monday, April 21 from 10 a.m. through time of Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Charlie Donajkowski officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery.

A special heartfelt thank you to the Compassus Hospice team of Alpena and her beautiful granddaughter Rochelle Kania for making her wish of staying in her home a reality.

Memorials may be made to: Compassus of Alpena or St. Dominic Catholic Church.

Arrangements are in care of the Beck Funeral Home.
