MARY KAY BURTON

MARY KAY BURTON

Dec. 24, 1944 – March 27, 2025

Mary Kay Burton of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on March 27, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on Dec. 24, 1944 in Hessel, Michigan, she was the daughter of John Dahl and Edna Bullard.

Mary devoted her life to her family and home, where she was known as a gifted homemaker and the best baker and cook. Her home was a gathering place for friends and neighbors, drawn by her warmth and generosity. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved.

She enjoyed simple pleasures–trips to the casino, playing bingo, and scratching off lottery tickets brought her joy. Mary had an outgoing spirit and loved to talk with everyone she met. She was always ready to lend a helping hand in any way she could.

One of her most cherished memories was traveling to Alaska with her beloved husband, Raymond P. Burton. In a remarkable coincidence that speaks to their deep bond, Mary passed away exactly 22 years after Raymond’s death–on the same day and within the same hour.

Mary is survived by her children: Kenneth (Lana) Burton, Scott (Laura) Burton , Todd (Wendi) Burton, and Tawnya(Scott) Mather; grandchildren Hunter Mather, Abigail Mather, Keely Burton (Emma Papenfus), Devin (Amanda) Brown, Reece (Krista) Burton, Rhett (Megan) Burton, Danielle (Michael) Dubie, and Bradley Burton; great-grandchildren Jaxon Brown, Jacob Brown, Myles Brown, Kayla Brown, Levi Burton, Kaelyn Burton, Wyatt Dubie, and Maddie Dubie; many nieces and nephews; her identical twin sister Judy; brothers Gary and Carl; and her significant friend Richard Heil.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life Raymond P. Burton; her second husband Paul Prentler; her parents; and siblings Ken, Sharon, Karen, Bill, Jim, and Tom.

Mary’s life was filled with love for family, friends, and fun. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

May her memory bring comfort and peace to those she touched.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to McLaren Hospice in Mary’s name.
