ROBERT CHARLES MEIXELL

Robert Charles Meixell, age 88, formerly lifelong resident of Alpena, recently of Lapeer, passed away on April 11, 2025.
Robert was born on July 7, 1936, in Cheboygan, Michigan, to Clifton and Alice (Claypool) Meixell. He moved to Alpena as a baby and made it his lifelong home until 2021, when he moved to Lapeer. He graduated from Alpena High School in 1954, went on to earn his associate degree from Alpena Community College in 1956, and later attended the University of Michigan. On Nov. 14, 1958, Robert married the love of his life, Mayford Gabara, at First Methodist Church in Alpena, in a ceremony officiated by the Rev. Defoe. Shortly afterward, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and honorably discharged in 1962.
Robert was employed at National Gypsum from 1958 to 1986. He then continued as a supervisor at LaFarge Corporation until his retirement in 2004. His work ethic, leadership, and loyalty were deeply respected by his colleagues.
Robert served on the HPC Credit Union Board of Directors for 55 years. He was a Charter Member of the Alpena Evening Lions Club. He was a devoted member of Word of Life Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Mayford of Lapeer; two sons, Brian (Patty) of Ortonville, Todd Meixell of Tucson, AZ; eight grandchildren, Jacob Meixell, Joslyn (Ryan) Meixell-Hartmann, Tome’ Meixell, Melanie (Travis) Hatfield, Colleen (Jason) Chapman, Thomas (Rebekah) Crumbaugh, Owen Crumbaugh, Patrick (Megan) Crumbaugh and eight great-grandchildren, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Clifton and Alice Meixell, sisters Kathryn (Dale) Sandel, and Ilah Smith.
Cremation has been entrusted with Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The second memorial service, will be in his hometown, 11 a.m. Wednesday April 23, 2025, at the Word of Life Baptist Church, Alpena (receiving family & friends the hour prior). With military honors concluding the ceremony.
