Alpena city crews are fanning out around downtown Alpena, stringing streetlamps with holiday lights.

At Culligan Plaza in the center of downtown, a lift truck raises crewmembers to wrap the official city Christmas tree in lights, ready to be illuminated at the conclusion of the holiday parade on Black Friday.

Indeed, the spirit of the season is growing in Alpena.

Each year, The News joins the celebration by running a holiday-themed story on Page 1A every edition from Black Friday through Christmas Eve.
