The News’ library book poll sends message

Thank you to The Alpena News for last weekend’s poll regarding the library books. The results are in, and the overwhelming sentiment of the News readers is, “Leave the books alone (82% to 16%).”

Are you listening, Alpena County Board of Commissioners? Do you understand that your sworn duty is to uphold and support the MAJORITY of your constituents? Do you understand the peril you have placed yourselves in with the farcical appointment of two library board members actively opposed (as are you) to the will of the Alpena community for the support of knowledge and education?

We do not live in the Alpena of the past. We, the majority, are an intelligent and well-informed community where our voices have been heard, and repeatedly.

Hear them.

Heed this message to you and the anti-education, book-banning minority in this community.

The time is now to end this censorship, this reversion to uneducated beliefs based on whatever your political or otherwise misinformed beliefs may be. End this debate now!

Leave the books alone. The response was resounding. Have you heard or read it? Support the library for the valuable community treasure that it is and focus on the positive advancement of this community with decisions on REAL issues facing Alpena County.

By the way, this majority is not going away!

DAN McNEIL,

Alpena Township
