Time running out for everyone to speak up

To the Editor:

As the new year approaches, a look back at the 2024 election is rather revealing.

It appears that enough voters had some success with the school board. Stepping out from there, with perhaps a few exceptions on township boards, the county treasurer, and two U.S. senators, Presque Isle County residents are represented by people who knowingly put their names on the ballot beneath a convicted felon in Donald Trump.

All of the new county commissioners, the prosecuting attorney, the sheriff, and the clerk, placed personal ambition above any respect for justice and the rule of law.

Oh, yes, don’t forget Jack Bergman. He voted to support insurrection and the overthrow of the 2020 election.

Time will tell how they perform their oaths of office, and you can bet that the anti-vax, anti-tax, so-called conservatives will belly up to the public trough. They will take money from the farm bill that President Joe Biden got through this time, they will give themselves a raise. After all, they deserve more than just a retired public school employee pension or a pittance of a county salary! They will bask in their total immunity. Perhaps, just maybe, they will have enough moxy to at least cover the memorials in the courtyard as their allegiance to their white Christian fascist ideology is disrespectful to those whose names are on them.

As for me, well, I will continue to speak out for as long as I can. As for the rest, time is running out for you to speak out louder than just your secret vote if you really consider yourselves to be Americans.

Just sayin’.
