Alpena boys swim team third in conference with 10-2 record

The Alpena High School boys varsity swim team, led by Jennifer Johnson and Liz Jacques, traveled to Saginaw Valley State University for the annual ISC Swimming and Diving Championship on Friday and Saturday.
In only its second season back, the team placed third in the conference with a 10-2 record.
In the first day of the competition, every single swimmer had their personal best time. On day two, Alpena had 20 qualifying entries and finished with a total of 294 points, out-swimming Caro, Ogemaw Heights, Oscoda, Alma, and Standish-Sterling Central.
“I am incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment each swimmer showed throughout the season,” coach Johnson said. “This year has been filled with advancements and growth. I look forward to continue to build the program in years yet to come.”
In the 12 events, the following swimmers placed.
200 Yard Medley Relay: Joshua Short, Drew McConnell, Alex Winfield, and Landen Gagnon in second place, and Kaleb Werth, Nicholas Dargis, Logan Mill, and Emmet DeRosia in eighth place.
200 Yard Freestyle: Joshua Short in second, Brenden Werth in 14th, and Milo Dahleen in 16th place.
200 Yard IM: Drew McConnell in fourth, Kaleb Werth in eighth, and Logan Mill in 12th place.
50 Yard Freestyle: Alex Winfield in fourth, Landen Gagnon in 11th, and Emmet DeRosiain in 13th place.
100 Yard Butterfly: Alex Winfield in third and Logan Mill in 10th place.
100 Yard Freestyle: Landen Gagnon in 10th and Nicholas Dargis in 11th place.
500 Yard Freestyle: Joshua Short 1st, Brenden Werth 14th and Joel Kaiser 16th Place.
200 Yard Freestyle Relay: Landen Gagnon, Joshua Short, Drew McConnell, and Alex Winfield in third place, and Quentin Hubert, Brenden Werth, Milo Dahleen, and Linkon Meinzinger in 13th place.
100 Yard Backstroke: Kaleb Werth in 11th and Emmet DeRosia in 15th place.
100 Yard Breaststroke: Drew McConnell in fourth and Nicholas Dargis in 15th place.
400 Yard Freestyle Relay: Logan Mill, Emmet DeRosia, Nicholas Dargis, and Kaleb Werth in eight, and Joel Kaiser, Brenden Werth, Milo Dahleen, and Linkon Meinzinger in 10th Place.
