ALPENA — The Alpena Police Department and Alpena Public Schools are investigating an alleged inappropriate incident involving a man and a minor near Ella White Elementary School on Friday.

The school was open on Monday.

Police have the description of the man and are hoping to release more details about the incident soon, Alpena Police Chief Eric Hamp said.

The incident was reported to students, families, and the public via the school’s Messenger Automated Contact System on Sunday evening and police are asking residents in Alpena to be on alert and report anything unusual, especially in the area of the school.

“There is an active investigation ongoing and we want people to be aware of their surroundings and notify police of anything suspicious,” Hamp said. “We’re working with the schools and hope to have more details soon.”

APS Superintendent Dave Rabbideau did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
