CFNEM awards $100,000 plus in new grants
The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan recently awarded a new round of community grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties. The Board of Trustees recently approved 68 new grants totaling $104,331. Of that amount, $74,384 was awarded in Community Impact Grants and $29,947 was awarded in grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council.

Impact Grants
1. Iosco County Coats for Kids – awarded $1,000 for the Happy Feet project.
2. Friends of Negwegon – awarded $800 toward the Exploring Negwegon through Journaling project.
3. Inspiration Alcona – awarded $1,000 toward the Alcona County Quilt Trail project.
4. Alcona St. Vincent de Paul – awarded $5,000 for the New Roof 2018 project.
5. Hillman United Methodist Church – awarded $800 for the Back to School Bash.
6. Hillman Community Schools – awarded $2,500 toward the STEM Enrichment project.
7. Top of Michigan Trails – awarded $1,100 for the Cyclist Relief on the NEST project.
8. Posen Consolidated Schools – awarded $2,000 for the Laptops for High School project.
9. Presque Isle Conservation District – awarded $2,491 for the Herman Vogler Conservation Tours project.
10. Rogers City Area Schools / RC Elementary – awarded $2,500 for the Getting Our School Healthy Project.
11. Cheboygan Hockey Association – awarded $1,000 for Safety Equipment and Coaching Aids.
12. Great Lakes Lore, Inc. – awarded $2,000 for the Trailer for Rippley Steam Launch.
13. Posen Area Fire & Rescue – awarded $2,000 for the Portable Radio Upgrade.
14. Presque Isle District Library – awarded $2,679 for the NE Exposure Music Series programs.
15. Presque Isle Historical Museum – awarded $2,000 toward the ADA Ramp at the Bradley House.
16. Temple Beth-El – awarded $1,000 for the Interior Renovation and Restoration project.
17. ACC/Alpena Volunteer Center – awarded $1,000 toward the Volunteer Center Website project.
18. Northeast Michigan Community Partnership – awarded $500 for the Family Fun and Safety Day project.
19. Alpena Gymnastics – awarded $1,500 for the new Vault Table.
20. Junior Achievement for North Central Michigan – awarded $1,500 for the K-12 Program for Alpena County Schools.
21. Alpena City Band – awarded $1,000 for the Centennial Project.

33. Alpena Blue Line Club – awarded $2,000 for the Community Outdoor Ice Rink project.
34. Alpena Public Schools – awarded $2,000 for the 6th Grade 1-1 Tech Pilot program.
35. Alpena County/Parks Commission – awarded $974 for the Manning Hill Tower Project.
36. Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library – awarded $2,000 for the READ Adult Literacy Barton Reading System.
37. Child and Family Services of Northeast Michigan/HSCC – awarded $1,000 for the Supporting Hygiene Insecurity in NE MI project.
38. Heritage Coast Sailing & Rowing – awarded $2,500 for the Science under Sail project.
39. Northeast Michigan Center for Fine Arts/Art in the Loft – awarded $1,000 for the REACH program.
40. Thunder Bay Arts Council – awarded $4,000 for the History of Industry Sculpture Project.
41. Shelter Inc./ Hope Shores Alliance – awarded $5,000 for the Safe House Improvement Plan, Phase III.
42. Northeast Michigan Trap Neuter Return Inc. – awarded $500 for the Trap, Neuter, Return for Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties.
43. Child and Family Services of Northeast Michigan – awarded $500 for the 5th Annual Walk Me Home 5K Run Walk.
Community Impact Grants are awarded through two different grant cycles throughout the year. Funding for grants during this cycle comes from CFNEM’s Community Impact Fund (which also includes the Genite Family Fund, Chuck and Kathy Ingle Fund, Lappan Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Fund, Reitz Family Fund, Stevens Fund, Weinkauf Fund, the Wilson Family Fund and the Tobacco Settlement Fund). Several designated funds at the Community Foundation provide funding for this cycle as well, including the Ann M. Kuntz Fund, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund, Montmorency County General Fund, Wayne Wire Cloth Fund, United Communities of Presque Isle County Fund, Alcona General Fund, Presque Isle General Fund, and the Huron Shores Health Fund.
Also approved were grants that were recommended by the Youth Advisory Councils of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties. 25 grants totaling $29,947.

The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through the Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle grant. The deadline to apply is July 1, and grants will be awarded to projects that support issues important to the women of Northeast Michigan. Applications are available at www.cfnem.org.
